Information Store acts as the most important part of MS Exchange. Whenever Exchange Server is going through any corruption issue, Information Store is also affected. Information Store expands over four kinds of database files which are Priv1.edb, Priv1.stm, Pub1.edb and Pub1.stm.

When corruption issues strike Priv1.edb or Pub1.edb then Exchange administrator comes across a number of symptoms and MS Exchange Information Store service stops or would not start. As a result of this, clients are unable to send or receive emails and come across a number of error messages.

In order to avoid such issues, an administrator can use the database backup if available. However, if no data backup is available, the administrator must immediately use possible EDB repair solutions. Consider a real time working scenario where you try mounting the mailbox store in Exchange and receive this error:

“Unable to Mount the Mailbox Store with error c104173c The Information Store is Busy”

This error message appears when there is possible corruption in one or both EDB files which are Priv1.edb or Pub1.edb of information store.

You must use the steps given below to ensure you EDB databases are safe:

  1. Run eseutil/mh command to ensure whether the database is consistent or not. If the result says ‘Clean Shutdown’ then remove all the log files from Exchsvrmbddata folder
  2. If the result says ‘Dirty Shutdown’, then use eseutil/r to perform soft recovery
  3. If the database fails to come in a consistent state, then use hard recovery using eseutil/p command

When you use the above mentioned command, then your data in Exchange Server is threatening to get lost. The lost data might include messages that were in the log files and not dedicated to the information store database. In such a situation use of Kernel for Exchange Server repair tool will help you repair corrupt .EDB database safely so that it comes into consistent state. Owing to the robust scanning algorithms of this EDB repair tool, you can recover inaccessible data in the most effective manner. Its read-only nature simply repairs the EDB file without causing any alteration to the integrity of original content.
